Jefferies analysts led by Brian Tanquilut took a closer look at the pricing for Amazon’s over-the-counter Basic Care medication line versus pricing of the private-label products offered at Walgreens and CVS. They found that prices for Amazon’s drugs are, at the median, 20% to 22% below similar products offered at the retail pharmacies.
Among the items in the Basic Care line are ibuprofen, famotidine acid reducer pills, allergy tablets, and hair regrowth treatments. Basic Care launched late last summer with about 35 products and has since expanded to 65, according to the Jefferies report.
