This week, I sat down with author and historian Yuval Noah Harari, who believes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's efforts to “systematically destroy the institutions of Israeli democracy” allowed Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack to happen.
According to Harari, Netanyahu’s domestic political maneuvers are directly linked to his failure – refusal? – to heed warnings from military and intelligence services about external threats leading up to the terrorist attack, arguing that this negligence was influenced by conspiracy theories about a so-called “deep state.”
Watch the clip here and catch my full interview with Harari on the upcoming episode of “GZERO World with Ian Bremmer,” also airing on your local US public television station.
